What is the Ultimate Human Diet?
Taking into account Performance, Aesthetics and Health
People always want to paint things in black and white. I am fully convinced it has to be ingrained in human nature. There never seems to be a middle ground. The reality is we live in a pass fail world.
Taking that fact into consideration I am starting a series of articles that are going to discuss many of the popular nutrition strategies that are commonly being used in the fitness industry today. The question in the title is purposely misleading. In my opinion there is not a one size fits all “Ultimate Human Diet” or at least it has yet to be discovered. However, there are many effective nutrition techniques out there that definitely have their place.
The article series will explain what the nutrition methodology is as well as the positives and negatives of each protocol. The underlying theme of this series is going to be the fact that there is no one correct way to go about everything. What works for some may not work or even be necessary for others. A lot also depends on the individuals’ goals and that is also going to be discussed as well.
I have tried to never marry myself to one nutritional philosophy. I am a proponent of low carb/high fat diets (See Carbophobic Diet), high carb / low fat, and just about everything in between. I find myself using a number of different techniques when dealing with clients. When I get a new nutrition client my goal is to try to come up with the best nutritional program for that individual person to meet their goals. Sometimes it’s a lower fat approach, sometimes if they have an autoimmune issue I may lean towards a Paleo approach. If the person has all their ducks lined in a row (training, nutrition, sleep) I might even incorporate intermittent fasting in a fat loss diet.
As mentioned, I have prescribed a variety of different nutritional programs but by no means am I an expert or know everything about all of them. For this reason I am making an effort to reach out to a few experts in each individual dieting approach to contribute to this article series. In addition I will give my commentary on how I integrate each nutritional program with my clients.
Hopefully this series of articles not only sheds light on what the experts in the field of fitness nutrition are prescribing but also on how each protocol can be incorporated to help you reach your goals!
